Volunteer with us!
We have a great group of volunteers that come together each year to prepare for Cheese Festival. Each of these volunteers put in many hours of planning and coordinating. We strongly encourage area residents to volunteer during Cheese Fest.
Without the volunteers, we wouldn’t have a festival.
Volunteers can do as little or as much as they are able.
Areas where we need help include the following:
*Kids Day – individuals are needed to help supervise the activities
*Welcome Booth - volunteer an hour or two of your time in the welcome booth
*Cheese, Wine and Beer Gala - servers, hosts, greeters
*Craft and Vendor Show - set up and take down

VOLUNTEERS - EVERY TOWN NEEDS THEM!
People make up towns and cities, states and countries. And there is nothing better than people coming together for a cause that everyone believes in. Every year for the past 80+ years (except for a few years in there during World War II), Pine Island has come together to host the Pine Island Cheese Festival. It is a grand opportunity to celebrate that which made our town famous and brought so many of our forefathers to this area – dairy farming and cheese making. A chance for those of us who live here to celebrate our hard work, thank our community and show off a bit for those that come to visit.
Well, that time is coming again and will be here before you know it. June 5, 6 and 7, Pine Island will get to show off all we have to offer to our own citizens as well as those who want to come and enjoy all that the Festival and the town have to offer. Cheese Festival is a monumental event to put on and you may be surprised to know it is organized and executed by a fairly small committee of PI citizens. The weekend has so much to offer and there are simply more events going on than there are committee members to coordinate. So, we are asking for your help. If you would like to volunteer to help out at any of the events going on the weekend of Cheese Festival, we would love to have you.
So what can I do, you might ask? Well, here is just a partial list of events going on this year at the Cheese Festival: ● Kid’s Day ● Canoe and Kayak Races ● Street Dances ● Fireworks ● Wine and Cheese Gala ● Craft Show ● Kiddie Parade ● Grand Parade ● Welcome Booth, and so much more!!
We will need people to help out at all of these events. As you know, the Festival is being moved down to the Trailhead Park area near the Butter Factory. This move was necessary to accommodate the school remodeling and street construction that is going to be taking place over the next few years. The City Council voted for the move at their February meeting, so it is a done deal. No take backs. The Committee is adapting the layout and all of the events to the new location. Do we expect bumps in the road? Sure, but we are going to weather through them together to give the community the best Cheese Festival we can.
So come on out and help! If you are interested in helping out at this year’s Cheese Festival, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. A little time or a lot of time – whatever you can give to help make this a success.
We want to thank you all, in advance, for your patience and understanding as we work through moving the Festival to its new location as well as your support during that busy weekend. I would like to close out with some great quotes about volunteerism. I hope that you can join us!
“A volunteer is a person who can see what others cannot see; who can feel what most do not feel. Often, such gifted persons do not think of themselves as volunteers, but as citizens - citizens in the fullest sense: partners in civilization.” Anonymous
“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.” Unknown
“The influence of a beautiful, helpful character is contagious, and may revolutionize a whole town.” Collier Graham
Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop... Dr. Dorothy I. Height
Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation's compassion, unselfish caring patience, and just plain love for one another. Erma Bombeck
